When to plant

Timing shifts with your zone — the Genie can pin down exact dates for you.

How to care for it

Plant in early spring as soon as soil can be worked. Prefers poor, sandy or rocky soil with excellent drainage — do not fertilize. Water only during establishment; it survives on snowmelt and rain.

Good companions

Bearberry, lingonberry, lowbush blueberry, and other acid-loving arctic natives

Harvest

Pick small black berries in late summer when fully dark; use fresh or freeze for juices and preserves.
